SCHOOL DRAMA FESTIVAL
The drama festival organised annually by the Palmerston North Little Theatre Society for pupils of secondary schools was concluded on Saturday with presentations of one-net piays by teams from the Technical High School No. 2, Marist: Brothers' High School, Boys' High School No. 2 ami Junior Repertory Players. The festival was non-oempetitive. but it was announced by the judge (Mr R. Rees) that silver stars for the best performances had been awarded the following: Boy, A. Norman (Boys' High School) : girl, Dorothy McKogg (Repertory Players). Special stars were awarded G. Yortt and Prudence Lusk (Intermediate School), two very young players who had excelled themselves." Barry Powell (Boys' High School) was highly commended for his performance. Tho awards were presented by Mrs C. R. Gair, to whom congratulations on the standard achieved by her orchestra were extended by Mr W. M. Sexton, deputising for the president (Mr 11. G. Bagnall), wh<> was unable, lo be present. Mrt Sexton also commented on the excellent standard of the acting throughout, which had given Mr Rees much difficulty in deciding on the best performances. He thanked Mr Rees on behalf of tho society and expressed indebtedness to Mr 11. K. McKav for organising the festival. The teams performing'on Saturday night were: Technical School No. 2: Barry O'Brien, Trevor Wills. Brian Morgan, Colin Hollows, Murl Burgess. Thelma Dutlne. Betty Shirley, Margaret Clegg. Brian .laggard. Rav Zander, Margaret Cowles. Producer, Miss W. E. Cooper. Marist Uros.' High School.—Brian Bergm, Leo Jervis, Maurice Kenny, Brian Stewart, John Sladc, Stuart Johnston, William Aisher, Maurice Ineson. Producer, Miss M. Cranston. Boys' High School No. 2.—Murray Simpson, Rex Smith, Barry Powell, lan Fraser, Kevin O'Brieil. Producer, Mr G. Lee.
