TOBACCO SUPPLIES. A statement that there was a reasonable prospect for smokers receiving all necessary supplies of tobacco was made to-day by Mr Sullivan. Tho Minister said that although there might on occasion have been temporary shortages of particular brands smokers in New Zealand had been particularly fortunate, partly for the reason that under the administration of tho New Zealand Tobacco Board there had been a substantial development in the production cf locallygrown leaf and because certain shipments of leaf had been recently landed. Arrangements were being finalised for further supplies from overseas, and, although dilliciiUics of shipping and manufacture in wartime might interfere with the programme, thero was still a reasonable prospect for smokers receiving all necessary supplies.
