HALCOMBE
(From Our Own Correspondent.) At the annual meeting of the Ilalcombo Sports Club, Mr W. S. Pago presided. The balance-sheet showed , a healthy position and it was decided to hold a sports meeting and dance. Officers elected were:—President, Mr W. S. Pago (re-elected); sports director, Mr L. Baffin; handicappcr, Messrs G. Burgess and W. Dais; secretary, Mr M. Wisnnowsky; assistant secretary, Mr G. Judd; stewards, Messrs E. W. Cowdrey, J. and D. Hughes. L. Faulding, A. and D. McNae, B. Wisnnowsky, N. Anderson, D. C'lode, J. Majurey, M. and I. Fcrgusson, R. Mornn, J. Williams, J. O'Sullivan, L. Williams and R. Dais. There- was a large gathering of parents, at the Ilaleombe- School break-up. The display of children's work attracted much attention and the sports events ■were keenly contested. Messrs K. Cooper and G. Nicol donated ice creams and soft drinks and a splendid afternoon tea was provided by the parents. In the unavoidable absence of the chairman Mr W. R. Powell addressed the gathering and Mr E. W, Cowdrey (past chairman) presented primary school certificates to the following pupils of Form II: Audrey Mitchell (dux), David Sterne (second). Daphne Rasmus-en (third), Noelinc McNae, Patricia Dudding, Douglas Anderson, Leonard Pask. Keen interest in the Ilalcombe Women's Institute was displayed when Mrs D. C. Managh presided over the last meeting for 1942. Husbands and children wore tho guests. The children were entertained with games and every child received a present from a largo Christmas tree. The honour,of presenting the gifts went, to Mrs C. Managh. the oldest member. Tho president wished all members the compliments of the season and the dispensing of ice creams and supper by members terminated a happy evening. A competition for tho best Christmas novelty was won by Mrs L. Davies A large number of residents of this district gathered at the Jubilee Hall when Private I. G. Owen was tho guest at a euchre and danco. Mr E. W. Cowdrey, on behalf of the Patriotic Committee, made tho usual presentation and commented on the guest's popularity. Mrs N. E. Ashworth, representing the Women's Committee, presented woollen comforts. Euchro prize-; were won by Mrs Paskc and B. Prior.
Through the generosity of an anonymous Kakariki resident over two hundred llalcom.be ami district children have had one shilling placed to their crcdit in National Savings accounts.
