FAREWELL GATHERING

Mrs J. Barsanti, the new president, was in the chair at a very pleasant gathering of members of the committee and singing circle of the Palmerston North branch of the Mothers' Union at the Rosco tearooms, yesterday afternoon. The occasion was a farewell to the retiring president, Mrs WM. Garner, who leaves shortly to take up her residence in Christchurch. Dainty shoulder sprays were presented to the guest of honour and to the new president, Mrs Barsanti referred to the regret of all the members that Mrs Garner was leaving the city and stated that Palmerston North's loss would be Christchurch's gain. In presenting her with a box of begonias and maidenhair fern the president asked Mrs Garner to accept with it the love and good wishes of the members. Mrs Lyon, as retiring leader of the singing circle, and Mrs W. H. Boon, retiring pianist, were presented with posies. Mrs Garner, in returning thanks, said she was very sorry to be leaving Palmerston North, where she had mado many friends. Mrs 11. JMclver had mado up the presentation box of flowers, and the posies were Mrs F. Anderson's work.
