MISSIONS TO SEAMEN.

The Mayor (Mr A. E. Mansford) presided over an attendance of about twenty persons yesterday to discuss the matter of arranging a street day to. collect funds for tlie (Missions to Seamen. The Mayor outlined the appeal and said that Funds were required urgently. He also read extracts of letters received from seamen thanking tlie mission for benefits received." “1. am sure,” said Mr Mansford, ‘‘that a street day will receive more support than this meeting has been given.” It was stated by speakers that the mission was called upon on many occasions to provide comforts for seamen, even in peacetime. Oil the motion of Mr S. J. Parkes", it was decided to support the appeal for funds. "The motion was seconded bv Dll' J. 0. Boniface. Miss N. Grant j was appointed secretary and Miss 1). i McCulloch assistant-secretary. It was' decided that a produce stall be con-! ducted in addition to the street appeal. Mesdanies 8. J. Parkes and L. Wood were appointed supervisors for the appeal, which is to take place next i month. The Mayor said he did not think there would be any difficult}’ in disposing of tickets in connection with the effort. It was also decided that various organisations iu the city bo communicated with and that helpers be sought. Provided enough helpers are available! a house-to-housc canvass is to bo made.
