MENINGITIS CASES.

PRECAUTIONS TAKEN

(Press Assn.) AUCKLAND, July 20. The diagnosis of the two suspected cases of meningitis, one from the Rotorua Alilitary Camp and the second from Ngaruawahia Camp, lias shown that each case is positive. The two men are stated to be progressing favourably.

The case from Rotorua was admitted to the Rotorua Hospital on Friday and that from Ngaruawahia to the Waikato Hospital on Thursday. Following the placing of a ban on leave and visitors to the Ngaruawahia Camp, a similar ban has been enforced ou the camp at Rotorua. The official view is that the cases are isolated ones and tliat their occurrence in military camps is not in any way a reflection on military control. Nevertheless full precautions are being taken by the army authorities. “No recurrence is anticipated,” said Brigadier P. H. Bell. D. 5.0.. officer commanding the Northern Military District. ‘All contacts will ho kept in isolation for the required period when, after an examination has shown that there is definitely no infection, they will be relea-ed from isolation. Until this has been done the restrictions must he maintained.”
