CITY’S UNUSUAL VISITATION. ' For ten nights in succession the Palmerston North district has experienced frosts, some being fairly heavy, and the occurrence, which is an unusual one here. lends emphasis to the remarkable dryness of the month. Following tlie frost of 7.3 degrees re corded on Saturday morning, brilliant sunshine prevailed, to In? succeeded by another cold night with a thick coating of rime to he seen on Sundav morning. The frost- reading at Massey College yesterday was 7.4 degrees, and recordings taken at other places about the city show it to have been even higher, in the vicinity of 8 degrees. Fine weather again nrevailed throughout the day and another frost was registered last night (.5 2 degrees). As showing the severity of the low temperature between Saturday night anil Sunday morning, at the Manawatu Golf Club’s links at TTokowhitu the right-hand pond in front of the tee at the 12th hole (Lagoon Hill) was frozen in places, with large patches of thick ice. Ice had also formed wherever water was exposed overnight. In a hothouse in the city a resident found ice had formed on his plants yesterday morning, the temperature having fallen to 30 degrees; according to the grower this is a most unusual occurrence, and he had to treat the frozen plants with warm water. Another householder reports that he found his milk frozen in the jug when he went outside for it yesterday. There have l>een 13 frosts in all so far tin’s month.
