RAILWAY RETURNS.

A BUOYANT PERIOD

(Press Assn) WELLINGTON, July 16. ] Reviewing the prc-audit returns of railway revenue and expenditure, Hon. JR. iSemple stated that the approximate | net revenue for the four-wekelv period | ended on July 21 was £102,035, an increase of £ - 25,347 on the figures for last year's relative period. A gross revenue for the four weeks, £849,153, was the highest ever obtained by the department in a June period. The position for the twelve weeks showed that the net revenue was practically unchanged, this year's figures for 82 days being £401,107 compared with £404.117 for the last year's 83 days. Preliminary returns for the four-weekly period revealed that passenger traffic had increased substantially and that goods traffic had been fully maintained, notwithstanding the overseas shipping position. Expenditure at £747.118 exceeded that of last year's corresponding period by £25,225.
