TANK PRODUCTION.
NEW PLANT AVAILABLE. LONDON, May 23. The increased tank and gun production, which was -50 per cent, higher in the first quarter of 1041 than in the December quarter of last year, is hailed as encouraging news. The greatest emphasis, however, is placed on tlie revelation that production is still rising progressively with the working in of new plant and equipment. It is understood that production in most cases has reached the aims set by the Government. Reports from all over the country show that the effect of air raids on production has been substantially less than, the enemy expected. Bombing has in no way affected the workers' morale.
Some war factory machines are producing between 40 and 50 per cent, above their rated capacity. In order further to stimulate production the Ministry .of Supply has introduced special officers to clean up local difficulties and complaints without delay and without the necessity of referring the matter to Whitehall.
