SUBVERSIVE ACTIVITIES
(Press Assn.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 16. Sentences of twelve months' gaol were imposed to-day by His Honour Mr Justice Northcroi't on Eric Alexander Jackson, and Harold James Greatorex. Jackson was found guilty an two charges of having documents in his possession with a view to facilitating the publication ot a subversive statement. Greatorex was found guilty on a similar charge. Addressing Jackson, the judge said it would be appropriate if Jackson could, be imprisoned for the duration of the war, but the maximum penalty provided was twelve months' gaol to which Jackson was sentenced'on each charge, the sentences to be concurrent. "You are clearly a menace to the community." said the judge in sentencing Greatorex.
