A meeting of interest to farmers is an-' nounced to take piace at Woodville next Friday evening, when Mr Hastings, organiser for tho Dominion Pig Marketing Association. will give an address of considcrablo interest to those concerned. At the Patriotic Society’s meeting last evening an interval was taken up by the reading of an interesting lettor from Corporal Athol Pickering, from “somewhere in England.” The writer thanked the people of Woodville for gifts received. The letter, besides being descriptive, emphasised the calm and courageous characters of the people in tho face of tho ordoal which they arc facing. Sir Alfred Ransom, M.P. for Pahiatua, has received the following letter from the Minister of Education (Hon. 11. G. R. Mason): —“With reference to your repent personal representation t concerning the need for improvement to the school buildings and grounds at Kiritaki, when you introduced Mr Cammock to me, I have pleasure iri advising you that this matter has received further consideration, and in view of the substantial contribution which the local people have offered I have approved a grant towards the cost of the work.”

Mrs Elisabeth Williams, who died at Na. pier recently at the ago of 82 years, was the mother of Mr W. V. Williams, of Woodlands Road, Woodville, and Mr T. F. Williams, of Pinfold Road, Woodville, The St. David’s Busy Bee organisation for junior mission workers under tho ago of 13 years held a meeting in the Presbyterian Hall, Items were contributed by members and a short talk on the Busy Boos arid their work was given by Rev. W. 11. Nicholas, after which the stalls were quickly emptied. A. total of over ±l4 was raised.

| In the Women's Institute Hall on Saturday night over 300 guests gathered lo honour' tho coming-of-age of Mr G D. Fairley, of Wellington, son of Mr and Mrs G. W. Fairley, of Woodville. The time was spent in dancing to the music of Mr L. Spelman and the duties of M.C. were ear- ' ried out by Mr G. Isakson, Misses M. and I. O’Neill and Miss M. Wade contributed to the entertainment and Mr Pickering was toastmaster. The customary toasts were honoured and Mr G. D. Fairley received numerous gifts. Among those present were Mr Holey .(Auckland), Mrs ! Hathaway and Miss Griffin (Stratford), Mr G. Dullison (Waverley), Mr and Mrs J. Bibby (Shannon), Mr and Mrs J. Fairley and Miss R, Fairley, Mr Jones and Mr McLeod (Palmerston North). ,
