FREEZING WORKS
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Oct. 5. For the purpose of bringing about a better understanding and to avoid as far as possible any friction in the freezing industry, the Minister of Labour (Hon. P. C. Webb) recently held discussions with representatives of the employers and workers. The Minister says the conference reached full agreement and it is his indention to refer its proposals to the Industrial Emergency Council to consider the question of embodying t'hem in regulations under the Emergency Regulations Act.
A works efficiency council, comprising the union works board of control, with representatives of the management and the district union secretary an ipso facto member, will meet once a fortnight. It will not be competent lor such councils to adopt any measure conflicting with the provisions of an award unless such alteration has been approved by the New Zealand Freez’ing Workers’ Association. There is to be a national council and 'in the event of any dispute referred to it not being settled such dispute rnay be referred by cither party to the Arbitration Court for settlement. During or after the 'hearing of a dispute arrangements may be made for experts from bqth sides to assist the Court in arriving at a decision.
