CERTIFICATION OF SEEDS
This year the new method of seed certification comes into force. In future only areas sown with Government stock or pedigree ryegrass will be entered for certification by application direct to the Department of Agriculture. The closing date for such areas is on November 22, 1940, after which an additional lato entry fee must be paid. Produce from areas sown with Government, stock seed will be classified as pedigree if they pass field inspection, and the produce from areas sown with pedigree seed will be classified, if passed, as mother seed. All other ryegrass or clover seed may be entered for certification by application through the merchant dressing the seed. In the case of ryegrass, the seed will bo tested by the ultra-violet ray method and will bo classified as permanent pasture if up to standard. As far as wheat is concerned, only the varieties Tainui, Taiaroa and Marquis will be accepted for certification, and those only if of the special seed imported and sent out by the Wheat Committee. The certification of seed oats and phalaris tuberosa is discontinued.
