UNITED , GUILD.

MONTHLY MEETING. Mrs Major Dick presided at the monthly meeting of the United Guild in the P.D.C. tearooms. In welcoming those present Mrs Dick said they would all be pleased to learn from the month’s report that the work had been most successful. She praised the 'high standard of the garments sent in and said that she thought this was an expression on the part of many contributors of their sympathy with the London air raid sufferers. She also said that it was realised that country people were busy on their farms at present and had not time to repair garments. If they would send in their materials the guild workers would be pleased to carry out repairs. On the suggestion of Mrs AV. F. Field, the assistant-secretary (Miss M. Jones) was asked to write to this effect to country organisations in the Kairanga County. The secretary (Mrs AV. A. Jacques, read the monthly report, which stated that the work had gone on with increased enthusiasm,, because of the knowledge that the articles were being sent for the use of air raid victims in London. Seven cases containing 1420 garments had been forwarded, including many winter articles and 40 rugs. T'ne report continued: “A great deal of the work done in the room has been mending and reconditioning of “drive” material forwarded to us from Wellington, but a number oi boys’ shirts have been made up from a bolt of grey flannel donated by Messrs Garner, Ltd. Girls’ frocks liavk. been made from material bought by Mesdames Hodder and Garner and the ladies of the Bunnythorpe Guild and Institute.”' Mrs H. Atmore had visited the workroom and suggested that ii would be well to include hussifs for. the women, who must be feeling the need for mending materials, having lost work boxes with all t'heir possessions. She also suggested story and picture books for young children. Miss Jones, read a report on the inauguration meeting of the Women's War Service Auxiliary, and Mrs L Bale was congratulated on being elected a delegate. A discussion took place on the work to be done by the auxiliary. The AV-D.F.U. wrote thanking the guild for a donation of £2 12a 6d to t'he country soldiers’ Christmas parcel fund. Other correspondence expressed thanks for gifts and made offers of help. Mrs Jacques reported that the Bunnythorpe Ladies’ Guild had given £5 worth of materials and Mrs T. R. Hodder had given £1 worth. Mrs A. Stewart was elected a member of the committee to represent the church guilds. Airs Jacques suggested a blanket drive for air raid victims and this was held over for consideration. A vote of thanks was accorded several ladies who had already made offers of blankets. Airs Field suggested that there be a demonstration of spinning at the Atanawatu Show, and it was agreed that efforts be made to arrange this.

Tho monthly report, in acknowledging donations, stated: —“’Tho specimen of stationery pinned up on the guild notico board is tho gift of Messrs 11. L. Ltd.
