FEWER APPLICATIONS

A decrease in the number of applications for permits to leave New Zealand is reported by the. Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon. W. E. Parry) who stated to-night that it was apparent New Zealanders 'were exercising sound judgment regarding travel in wartime. The merits of all-claims for permits were thoroughly investigated and there were difficulties where both men and women were concerned. Some men wished to return to the Home country', after a short residence in New Zealand, hut had been here long enough to be eligible for national service. Many women wished to join their husbands overseas, but the conditions in Britain precluded the permits being granted. '
