1 lie October meeting' of the Women's Institute was held on Tuesday afternoon, when Mre N. M. Byrnetf. presided. Recitation of the prayer tor E-ivine guidance and the rendering of the National Antliem preceded the business. Mrs Burnett referred to the departure of a valued member, Mrs Single, to New Plymouth, and warmly eulogised that lady’s sterling assistance. Mosdi.nies Nicholson and Terry were appointed delegates to the half-yearly council meeting at Eketalmna. Mrs C. Forbes road a letter signed by six New Zealand soldiers “Somewhere in England,” describing their eniovment of a home-made fruit-cake sent by Mrs Forbes. “We even scraped (be paper,” the writer stated. Reference was also made to the departure of Mr C. de Malmanche in September and to the presentation to (bat gentleman of a pipe and pouch, in recognition of his good service., as honorary carrier for many yeans. Mrs J. T. Memo and Red Cross members gave a very interesting and instructive demonstration of bandaging, and the president gave a. splendid description of some of ihc beautiful homes in which rhc had enjoyed hospitality during hor visit to Rngland !a.st year as delegate to the A.C.W.W. Conference. It was announced that' the successful competitors in the garden competition wore Meedamos Stanborough, S. Worbovs 2. and Martridge 3. Mrs Hurley was in charge of a wellladen stall in aid of patriotic funds. The hostesses during Hie afternoon tea recess were Mesdamcs W. Roaglcy, senr.. W. Beaglcy, junr., W. Brothcrstone, Ely. and \Y or boys. The following appointments wore made for Hie November meeting: door hostesses, Mesdamcs Mountford and McCarthy; flower steward, Mrs B. Hutching: stall, Mesdamcs A. Hutching and Halpin.
