SOLDIERS’ COMFORTS.

WOMEN’S PATRIOTIC WORK. The gratifying amount of £l7 10s for Christmas comforts for men on active service was raised by the parcels branch of the Women’s Patriotic Committee at their “bring and buy” afternoon yesterday. The Little Theatre, which had been lent for the occasion, was an animated scene with wellstocked stalls, and entertaining items, announced by Mrs S. G. Northey, who had organised the occasion, were well received. Competitions for sironge cakes and scones were well supported and were judged by Mrs AY. J. Phillips as follow :—Sponge cakes, Mrs Mclver 1. Mrs F. Lucas, 2 (special donated by Mrs Phillips); scones, Mrs Lucas. Items were as follow: —A r ocal duets, Mesdames T. Simpson and AV. Bigham; recitation, Mrs R. Fowles; songs, Mrs AV. Bigham and Miss Joan Bigham ; sketch. Mesdames F. McLaclilan and T. Garrick.

The dust on linoleums can easily be kept down by the constant and proper use of a floor mop treated with oil.
