AWAPUNI REST HOME. Mrs Noe] Adams (Clevedon), Dominion president of, the W.D.F.U., presided over a meeting of the board of management of the rest home at Awapuni, this week. Also present were Mesdames J. C. Wickham (Wanganui), M. Barrer (Masterton), AV. Howell (Raumai), F. Brice (Marton), J. A. Harris (Turakina), H. R. Green (Kairanga), A. B. Smith (Wellington). Dominion secretary, and W. F. .Field (Palmerston North) secretary of the house committee. Tlie resignation of Miss Z. Cade (Wellington), senior assistant on the staff, on account of ill-health, was accepted with regret, and Miss M. Hope (late of Marton) was appointed to fill the vacancy. The matron (Mrs G. M. Cook) reported that a very satisfactory state of affairs existed. The gardener had had a very successful year, more than sufficient produce for the requirements of the home having been grown on the grounds. The matron was commended for her success with poultry for supply to the home. Certain repairs had been effected during the past three months and it was decided to call tenders for painting the buildings. Mrs Wickham moved a vote of thanks to Mrs Field for having presented, at the Dominion executive meeting held recently in Wellington, a report showing that the home had filled a great need for many country women and others during the two years since its inception. The executive of the house committee reported that the second trainee to be placed was in a position in a country home where she would have every facility for completing her domestic training. After much discussion it was agreed that mothers in the country with young families should have preference in obtaining the services of the probationers when they were ready to take positions. It was decided that after each probationer had served a term in •a home where there were no children she should be transferred at the discretion of the board of management. Numerous requests having been made for probationers, it was decided to admit one or two more trainees if possible.
