SCHOOLS TOURNAMENT. Instead of the weekly inter-school basketball matches of previous years, Palmerston North primary schools held a tournament at the Technical School grounds on Friday afternoon. Fifteen teams competed in the two sections, two teams coming from each of the following schools: Central, College Street, Convent, Ilokowhitu, Russell Street, Terrace End and West End; and one team from Milson. Terrace End proved the winners of both sections. The junior team, by beating Central 5 —3 and Convent 2 —l in the semi-finals, won their section. The ! senior team beat Central 6 —5 in the final match. These teams become the holders of the Herbert' Smith trophies. The sportsmistress of the various schools were in 1 charge and those refereeing were Mrs Ilobin, Misses Arlidge, Gosnell, McLean, Ross, Shepherd, Slater, 11. and R. Wapp.
