NORWEGIAN SEAMEN

VALUABLE CONTRIBUTION. WAR. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Aug. 10.

Broadcasting to Norwegian, seamen in America Crown Prince Olaf of Norway said that the seamen of his country were to-day more than anyone else bearing the burden and heat of the day for Norway. The people of Norway were profoundly unhappy because of the Nazi occupation, and the Norwegian seamen regretted bitterly that they were not able to render direct help to their countrymen. They had, however, other ways of reconquering what had been lost. “We must with all means in our power contribute toward the extinction of the political system which our enemy has tried to force upon our country,” lie said. “We cannot do this otherwise than by siding with those who maintain that small nations as well as great ones have a right to lead their own lives.

“Norway is still at war, and the most effective weapon she has in the fight is her merchant fleet of nearly 1000 ships manned by 30,000 seamen. We serve our country by sailing the seven seas, but above all we help by bringing England all the supplies which are wanted by our allies for the prosecution of the war. In this way we are fighting not only for ourselves but also for our allies.”
