BRITISH CHILDREN.
PARTY REACHES BRAZIL, (British Official Wireless.) Received August 12, 12.40 p.m. RUGBY, Aug. 11
The steamer Highland Brigade arrived at Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) on Saturday with 79 British children who will spend the war in South America. These are the first such children from Britain to reach South America. The vessel which brought them is that announced, by a German broadcast as to be so overdue as to be considered lost. RECEPTION PLANS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Aug. 12. The thanks of the Government for offers of assistance in handling the scheme for the reception of children from England were extended to-day by Hon. W. E. Parry to the organisations associated with the welfare of children in New Zealand and others assisting in the work. Mr Parry said that hardly an institution with . social tendencies had failed to submit its offer, while the people were most enthusiastic. Within a few days. Mr Parry said, letters would reach tho local committees appointed setting out the further measure of co-operation which would assist the further working of the scheme. Ho pointed out the advantages of having representatives of the various women’s organisations which were interested in the welfare of children on the reception committee.
