HUGE U.S. DEFICIT.
Received August 10, 2.10 p.m. WASHINGTON, Aug. 9
The Secretary to the Treasury (Mr H. M. Morgenthau) forecast a record peacetime deficit of approximately 5700 million dollars. He urged Congress to enact an excess profits tax immediately and pointed out that the defence appropriations and contract authorisations made and pending totalled' 14702 million . dollars.
