(From Our Own Correspondent.) NEWBURY, Aug. 1. The monthly meeting of the Women's Institute, %vas held at the residence of Mrs Colin Cameron. In the absence of Mrs Shaw, who was indisposed, tho ' chair was taken by Mrs F. Verry (vice-president). It was decided, duo to the restrictions on the use of petrol, to hold tho sewing guild for refugees on the same afternoon as the monthly mooting, and those who arc not members were asked to attend as usual. Two more soldiers’ parcels are being sent away this month. Tho competition for a dozen ginger-nuts (the entries being forwarded to the patriotic shop), was won by Mrs C. Collins 1, Miss Lynch 2, Mrs J. Lancaster 3; best flower, Miss Lynch 1, Mrs J. Macaulcy 2, Mrs Clapeott 3. Tho competitions for next month will be for the best petticoat to fit a child of about five years, entries to bo sent to the rofngeo depot, and the host gloves. A vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Cameron for the use of her home. The sympathy of settlors in this district has been extended to the Cheetham family and the Penberthy family, who have just suffered bereavements. Both families arc highly respected residents of the district. ’The friends of Mr J. Scrimshaw will regret to learn that ho is seriously ill in the Palmerston North Hospital. Farmers are becoming busy again for tho new season. Lambs and calves are quite numerous, and the weather could not bo better than it is at present. Hopes are held that it will continue so for some time. Many farmers are making the change from butter to cheese factory supply, to help fill the shortage for overseas consumption.
