RANGITIKEI.

MARTON, Aug. 2. In a table tennis match played on Thursday evening, the Marton club beat a combined Methodist and Lutheran team by 81 games to 63. As tho result of a concert staged on Thui'isday evening in the Presbyterian Hall by pupils of the Marton Junction School, the Marton Patriotic Society benefited to the extent of £lB. Tho Minister i:i charge of the Valuation Department (Hon. F. Langstnne) has advised the Rangitikei County Council that, owing to tho adverse change in the war conditions since the dispatch of -his of May 29 last, he is no longer in a position to assure the council that if the work of revaluation of the county were started there would be funds and staff available to see it through to completion. The chairman (Cr K. W. Dalrymplc) considered that the council could not give any definite lead to the ratepayers. It was now a matter for tho ratepayers to take individual action. The council decided to inform the Minister that there is a likelihood of numerous individual applications being made for a revaluation. In the Centennial musical composition contest the first prize went to the orchestra! overture, “Drvsdalc,” and the first prize for choral work to “Prodigal Country,’’ both by Douglas Cordon Lilburn, of Huntcrvillc (now studying in England); tho second prize for overture went to “Festival.” by the same composer.
