MAGISTRATE’S, COURT.

CHARGES OF THEFT, James Carnegie, architect, of Wellington. aged 28 years, appeared in the Magistrate’s Court before Mr H. P. La wry, S.M., to-day, on three charges: (1) That, on or about May 7, 1940, at Palmerston North, he stole the sum of £6 6s, the property of Alexander Woodd; (2) that, on or about May 8, 1940, at Palmerston North, lie 6tole £6 6s, the property of Robert Wilson Guy ; and, (3) that, on or about May 4. 1940, at Palmerston North, he stole £6 6s, the property of William Wilkinson, junr. Detective-Sergeant A. B. Meiklejolin asked that accused be remanded to appear on August 8 and this was granted. Bail was granted with a personal recognisance of £IOO and a surety of a like amount or two of £SO. Mr Meiklejohn said accused started in practice in Palmerston North a few months ago, using the letters F.11.1.8.A., and this was one of the matters on account of which a remand was required, as the Attorney-General had to be communicated with. Accused had said this morning that his real name Was Carnegie-Latham. Ho left Palmerston North rather hurriedly. Previously witness had interviewed him. accused then saying he would be leaving to join the Air Force, but he left before the expected date and was arrested yesterday morning in Wellington.
