CROQUET ASSOCIATION.
20th ANNUAL MEETING. The 20th annual meeting of the Manawatu Croquet Association was held yesterday afternoon, Mrs J. Petrie (Feildmg) presiding. Delegates were present from the Manawatu, Northern, Ta'karo, Terrace End, Oroua, and Fexlding Clubs. The report (already pumished) and the balance-sheet were adopted, regret being expressed at the loss of me Eketahuna Club (transferred to the Masterton Association) and St. John's, Feildmg (disbanded).
The Dominion: Council notified that tlie mallets competition had been allotted to . Manawatu*: 'for March, 1941. It was agreed to apply lor March 11. The Manawatu Ciub wars appointed as the headquarters for both the mallets competition and the Manawatu tournament. It was decided to hold the association tournament in February, if permission is granted ,by the. Dominion council, and Mrs S. J. Parkes was appointed tournament . manager. The catering arrangements were left to be discussed by the Manawatu Club. .. ....
It N was decided to ask the St. John’s Club to submit its handicap list to the association on account of members transferring to other clubs. An offer of the Nicholson Mallets for association play-was received from the Levin -Club and the donor, with rules The Northern' Club wrote suggesting alterations. It was decided to leave the championship in section play as previously, to change to the two-life system in level singles and to raise the entry fee. Section play with a raised entry fee was also adopted for the B grade
championship The election of officers resulted President, Mrs W„ J. Robertson, vice-presidents, Mesdames B. Spence (Feilding) and T. Simpson; secre-tary-treasurer, ■ Mrs S. J. Parkes; district handicapper, Mrs E. Anstis; assistant handicapper and district referee, Mrs T. Simpson; country liandicappers, Mesdames Glass (Dannevirke), Bryant (Manakau) and Nicholson (Levin) ; referees, Mesdames Robertson, Brown, Anderson, McMurray, Radford, Wood, Benfell, Petrie, Aiken, Nicholson,- Glass, Burnett, Wilson, Bryaiit, ’ Lyall, Eddelston, K. McDonald auditor, Mr A. Kerslake. : '
A junior A player was defined as one with three to five bisques. It was agreed to apply again for the Silver Buttons matches. . The secretary reported that excellent ; results had been obtained when the association took charge of the patriotic shop and appreciation was placed on r.ccord of the work of the members in this connection. A recommendation was made thatthe Dominion council should lend < to the Government free of interest for the duration of the war, whatever money is available. It was decided to nominate Mrs Simpson as, a vice-pre-sident on the Dominion council. ' A vote of thanks was accorded the retiring president and the secretary. '■
