COMPULSORY REGISTER.
AUSTRALIAN BILL PASSES SECOND BEADING. CANBERRA. June S. The second reading of the Bill to establish a compulsory national register of man-power was carried in the House of Representatives by 34 votes to 25. A motion for a military census, moved by the former Postinaster-Gen-oral (Mr A. Cuineroii), was lost by 48 votes to 14. CENSUS OF WEALTH. GOVERNMENT TO ACCEPT AMENDMENT. Received June 9, 10.10 a.m. CANBERRA, June 9. Tho Minister for Defence (Mr G. A. Street) announced in the House of Representatives that the Government proposes to accept Mr Nairn’s amendment to the National Registration Bill for the inclusion of a census of wealth, which was causing the Ministry embarrassment.
