TROTTING PATRONS.

DRESSING AT A WAP UNI. Surprisingly brilliant, considering the long spell of dry weather, were the flower beds at the Awitjmni racecourse on Saturday, when the Mannwatu Trotting Club’s meeting was opened. The cann.is along the drive, and most of the dahlias, were past their best, but marigolds, catmint, verbenas and phlox made a brave showing. Cleantlms flamed near the memorial fountain, and the birdcage was a blaze of colour, while particularly attractive were the central beds on the lawn, which were filled with pastel-tinted phlox and love-in-thc-mist.

The turn of the season was definitely indicated in the dressing, tailored suits being worn by the majority, and j fur or tweed coats accompanying [ frocks. Navies and browns were the predominating colours, tan shades being as popular as ever, and it was obvious that the new greens are gaining in favour. There were very few distinctive toilettes, but on the whole clothes were chosen with discrimination and practical eommonsense. Among those noticed on the lawn were: Mrs IV. Mnnldev (wife of the president), who wore a stone blue suit, and aneliusa blue felt hat: Mesdames L. 11.
