NOTES.

No burials have taken place in the old cemetery seserve on Pinfold Road since 18S1, but there is a revenue of £ls a year in grazing fees, so it was stated at the meeting of tlio Borough Council. There are still a number of graves in the reserve, one with a headstone. Councillors were averse to disturbing the graves, as relatives had previously objected to removal to the present cemetery. The council is trustee for tlio Crown. Cr. Hustwick inquired if the council could be asked to disinter tbe remains, but this was not thought likely. It was decided to advise the Commissioner of Crown Lands that the council objected to any change. A ratepayer complained to the Borough Council that leaves and twigs from gmn trees on a reserve spoiled his May crop. A suggestion was made to cut the trees. The Mayor, in reply to Or. Hustwick, did not think the road would he suitable for post timber. Tlie Borough Council has been advised by tl>e State Advances Corporation that only part of the Council’s street improvement loan of £2500 is likely to he available at a time. Tho loan was authorised at a poll of ratepayers. The council has also been advised by a life insurance company that it has no funds available. The rpcent- sitting of the Assessment Court, in AVoodville cost the Borough Council £2O. and the objectors’ valuations were decreased by £45. The Borough Council is committed to an expenditure of £44 off the provincial count at tho Centennial Exhibition. and. therefore, did not see any benefit in making a contribution towards the Gas Companies’ Association exhibit, entailing a sum of £SOOO. Registrations under the Soeial Security Act at flic Post Office at AVoodville are reported to he slow in coming in. The few registrations made to date lead to the view that toward the end of the month (when all females over 16 years of age and all males between the ages of 16 and 20 must have registered) there will he somewhat of a rush. AVliile there are as vet no actual figures available, the nrosperts for the poppy sales in the AVoodville district are encouraging and indications at the moment are that they are greater than those for last year.
