MOTHERS’ UNION.
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS
There were about 90 women, including visitors from Dannevirke, Ashhurst, and /I’e Rehunga Unions, present at the’Parish Hall for the first birthday of the AVoodville Mothers’ Union. A service was held in Holy Trinity Church, and was conducted by Rev. B. L’. Williams, who gave a
short address on the importance of the Mothers’ Union. A play “The Village Shop, was performed, those taking part being Mesdames IT. N. McNeil and T. Smith Misses J. Kirkpatrick, M. Mountfort and M. Crosse. A song was rendered by Mrs W. Hanlon. Mrs R. R. Johnstone being the accompaniste. After afternoon tea had been served by the members of the AA oodviHe Mothers’ Union, Airs Williams, the local enrolling member, welcomed the guests and expressed pleasure that so many had come to celebrate their anniversary. A vote of sympathy was passed with Airs A. J. Farnell, the Ashhurst enrolling member, who is in hospital. Airs AA’illiams called upon Airs Romley, who was acting enrolling member for Ashhurst, to light the one h'u° candle on the big birthday cake, which had been made by Afrs J. Mountfort and iced in blue and white, the colours of the union. AA'hile lighting the candle, Airs Rnmlpv thanked the AVoodville Mothers’ IJnion lor its invitation and welcome. Mrs Fairhrnthor. enrolling member of the Te Relumgn Union, blew out the candle and the cake was cut bv Airs Raton (Ashhurst), who among those present had had the longest association with the union and its work. Those ladies also returned thanks to tho hostesses for the opportunity of being present and assisting at the ceremony.
