BOWLING. COMPETITIONS ENDED. The Bowling Club’s competitions were completed on Saturday afternoon, when A. IT. Spademan won the Bolton Cup by one point (his handicap) from A. Iv. Boyd, the game ending 19—18. The issue was in doubt practically all tlio way. Boyd would secure a lead of a few points, although his bowls were short at times, when his opponent, playing fairly consistently, would gradually draw level. It was a very good game, and the winner was applauded. Spademan had an unbroken two-life record in this particular competition, but on Friday Boyd defeated him by one point, and it was predicted that the game on Saturday would be a very interesting one. Both men got in some splendid shots, and their drawing was often exceptionally good. Spaekman has the distinction of winning a double 111 is season, as he proved victorious in the .Junior Cup. after a very keen contest Up till t.lio last bowl with G. TT. AfcCullough. Winners of the other dub competitions are as follows: Senior singles ehamnionship, C. G. Forbes; runner-up, TT. TV Horne; pairs championship. 11. P. Horne and J. Grinlinton ; runners-up, R. IT. Morgan and L. McKinla.v. In a Kauri Buttons match on Saturday. a team comprising Spaekman, Vowel I. J. Morgan. C. Smith (skip) defeated McCullough. Boyd. R. Morgan. Hawkes (skip) by a very small margi n.
The curtain will tie rung down in n few days on what lias been from all viewpoints a most, successful season. The green lias been in splendid order throughout. and the hnmlienppors’ selections have, on the whole, proved correct. BYRNE CUP GAINED. After three unsuccessful efforts, the Woodville Bowling (Tub on Saturday gained tlio Byrne Cup, a trophy held by the Eketahuna Club, which tn 1930 was presented by a Pahiatua resident tor competition between the Pahiatua, Dimnevirko, Eketahuna and Woodville Clubs. The green at Eketahuna was in excellent order. Micro was a slight shower while the Woodville visitors were present. The surroundings of the green are very pretty and the Woodville rink thoroughly enjoyed the day’s outing. The rinks and the score were as follow:—AAoodville: Forbes, Cotter. Young Horne (skip) 22 v. Eketahuna : Ammunsen, Herbert, Frederiksen, Simpson (skip) 15.
