ST. PAUL'S CHURCH
INDUCTION SERVICE. Following the induction service at St. Paul's Methodist Church on Saturday evening, at a social hour in the schoolroom, the new minister, Rev. Clarence Eaton, was introduced to officers and members. Mr H. G. Bvcroft, circuit steward, who presided, apologised for the absence through sickness ot Air 0. Bettany, senior steward. In • felicitous terms the chairman voiced what lie believed to be the wish of all, that Air Eaton would enjoy to the full his ministry at St. Paul’s. He assured Air Eaton that file officers and members were ready and willing to give the cooperation which he would desire. To Airs Eaton and family Air Bycroft extended also a warm greeting on behalf of the ladies of the church; all were looking to many happy days of good fellowship and service.
Conveying greetings from the Council of Christian Congregations and ministers of the city, Rev. J. C. Alacky of the Baptist Church, expressed the wish that Air Eaton would have a happy and successful ministry in Palmerston North. For the sister church of Cuba Street, Rev. A. Blakeniore voiced a welcome. There had been during and prior to Rev. M. A. AlcDowall’s sojourn in Palmerston North, close cooperation between the two churches. He was hopeful that this would continue.
Rev. Cl H. Olds, Hastings, chairman of the Hawke’s Ba.y-Manawatu District, declared that ministers throughout the district were looking forward to meeting Air Eaton at synod and on oilier occasions. His long experience in the service of God and the Church would he most helpful and valuable in all their deliberations.
During supper, which was served by the Ladies’ Guild, Mr Eaton thanked the meeting for the welcome. Airs Eaton and himself were greatly moved by the expressions of goodwill with which they had been met. Assured of the hearty co-operation of the people at St. Paul’s and with God’s blessing on all efforts, he looked forward to the future with all confidence and full of hope.
