(From Our Own Correspondent.) BFACUNSF'iFLD, April 17. W. A. Nabi Jan and S. K. tjabharwal, who are Fijian pupils at tile Wanganui 'icclimeal College, spent the Faster holidays as tne guests ol Mr and Mrs D. Old. These two interesting visitors are schoolmates ut Mrs Old’s son Fetor, who was also at home tor tlio holidays. Mrs Old also had as her guests Mr and Mrs It. Falnicr, ot Wanganui Fast. Mr \V. Brown has returned to Masterton alter spending a holiday in the district. Miss Joan Corpc has returned to Beacousiicld after a holiday in Wellington. Mr and Airs F. C. llutherford motored to Napier lor tho Faster holidays. Mr and Mrs T>. F. Kelly, Kelburn, Wellington, who have been tho guests of tho latter's sister, Mrs A. Sncil, at tho school house for tho past two weeks, have left. Mrs Kelly will continue her holiday in Wanganui, whilst Mr Kelly left to resume work in Wellington. r\Jr AV. Shanks has been a guest at the home of Mrs Cliff Rutherford. Mr and Mrs W. H. Davies and family, of Albert Street, Palmerston North, were recent visitors to tho district. Mr and Mrs K. Bunn have returned from a holiday at Foxton Beach. Alt' and Mrs Guy Thomson, whose children have been holidaying in the district as the guests of Air and Airs A. Snell, were recent visitors to Boaconstiehl. Airs 11. Stuart, who recently returned from a seaside holiday, was unfortunate enough to take ill soon alter coming home and is now an inmate of the hospital, her condition on Sunday being very serious. The pupils of the Waituna School held their annual picnic at. the local pool on Mr Corpe's property in ideal weather. The prolonged and serious dry spoil of weather which has made this picnic ground so popular was broken early on Saturday evening, when a few light showers foil. The sn cut age o f waler for both household and stock purposes has become very acute ami it is to he hoped that the rain will continue for a day or so. Mr and Mrs W. 1.. Grier, of Mataniaia. have been visiting relatives and friends in the district.

An unfortunate fire occurred on the property of Mr and Mrs T. Fisher last Friday in the early hours of the morning, when the wash-house, implement shod and contenls. as well as two motor ears and a large quantity of baled hay were destroyed. Willi the assistance of neighbours the house was saved after much water had been carried to the fire. Air Fisher will be a, heavy loser. C.01.F NOTES. The Radies’ Golf Club annual general meeting was held, there being a very good attendance. The president s report showed the financial position to be good. Mrs ,J. Stewart, who resigned from the position of captain, was thanked for tho aide manner in which she had carried out her duties during the past season. Tt wa» agreed at the suggestion of file F.G.T ~ to do without a president in future and nominate a captain instead, 'the election of officers resulted: —Secretary, Mrs J. A. Withers (re-elected); captain, Airs U. Old; vice-captain. Alias ('lore; handicapper, Airs Withers ; committee. Alcsdames Corpc, N Short. J. Old. 0. Curtis, A. Snell and Miss N, Pearce. Miss Clero was askcrl to be ten. supervisor. Tt was decided to play the Rose Bowl in the senior competition and the Etna Cup in the junior. The annual general meeting will in future bo held on the last Saturday before closing day. A bogey competition will be played next Saturday, the draw taking place at tho golf house.

At tho men’s committee meeting the following new players were for membership :—Alcsdames Snell, Curtis, Shannon, Alisses T. Old and 1,. Stratford, and Messrs Northcotte, J. Gawne, C. Curtis, W. Malone, TT. Gipson, A Snell and R. Hitehinan. Mr .T. Strickland has presented two silver golf buttons for ladies’ and men’s competitions. A vole of thanks was accorded Air Strickland for his donation. The members of the committee were all agieeable to having the first ball of the season (driven off by Mrs C’orpo) mounted and presented to Air Corpc, to show their appreciation for his generosity in all golf matters.

Favourable weather attended opening day on the links on Saturday. The president (Air J. Old) welcomed all members and visitors and w'ished the club a successful season. He then declared tho links open and asked Airs Oorpo to drive the first hall. The competition was a mixed Canadian foursome for the best medal round. Afr J. Strickland and Miss Clero came to the fore, winning tlio trophy. The following were the best cards (over nine holes) : Miss Clero and J. Strickland, 49 — 13— y- • Air and Airs .T.
