COLLECTION OF RATES.
MANAWATU COUNTY. PERCENTAGE INCREASES. The county clerk (Mr A. K. Drew) presented his usual statement ol rates levied, collected, outstanding, and rebate allowed as at March 24, 1939. at the monthly meeting of the Manawatu County Council held at Sanson yesterday. This showed a small increase in the percentage of rates collected compared with previous years. The percentage (95.73) compared with previous years as f0110w:—1932-33, 78.05; 1933-34, 86.03; 1934-35. 56.69; 1935-36, 84.01; 1936-37, 92.64; 1937-38, 95.31. The statement included the following information (shillings and pence omitted) ;
“The percentage is the highest that we have had for a number of years,” said the clerk, “and it is very satisfactory.” It was anticipated that this week the council would receive a number of payments of outstanding accounts. Cr. J. H. Perrett said he also thought it was a satisfactory position.
