ECZEMA IN STOCK.
NO CASES IN MANAWATU. NEED FOR CAUTION. Although a number of cases of facial eczema among sheep have been reported in other districts, there is a total absence of the disease in - the Manawatu so far this season, according to a statement made to the “Standard” to-day by Mr Elphick, M.R.C.V.S., of the Department of Agriculture. “While the position is very satisfactory,” Mr Elphick said, “farmers would bo well advised to take every precaution. There is no knowing, for instance, what might happen following rain.” The department, Mr Elphick continued, was watching the position closely and farmers were urged to keep a strict watch on their flocks. Despite the continued dry wen.ther a number of cases of facial eczema have been reported in the Gisborne district, and -an officer of the grassland research station at Palmerston North is at present in that district carrying out investigations.
