SALVATION ARMY.

HARVEST FESTIVAL SERVICES. Large congregations and splendid singing characterised the services held yesterday in the Salvation Army Citadel, which was transformed by the beautiful harvest decorations and very fine display of flowers, fruit, and vegetables. Colonel Kemp and Major Dutton, from the headquarters staff at Wellington, were the special speakers for the day, and acre warmly welcomed by the Corps Officer, Adjutant Dick.

Inspiring singing of the old hymn, “Come, Ye Thankful People, Come,” opened the morning service, during which the band and songsters rendered some beautiful music. Colonel Kemp’s address on “The Arithmetic of Harvest” was based on the thought of multiplication of seed, in both the natural and spiritual senses. The singing by the songsters of Jude’s “Consecration” was a fitting close to a deeply-devotional service. Th© 3 p.m. meeting took the form of a bright musical programme. The songsters contributed “Lift Up Your Heads, Oh Ye Gates” in fine style, while the hand was heard to great advantage in an anthem from Rossini’s “Stabat Mater.” Major Dutton’s graphic portrayal of the story of Ruth and Boas was a typically harvest one. The climax of the day was reached in the heights attained during the evening service, when the beautiful “Altar Service” was reverently conducted. all taking part giving of ihenbest “unto the Lord of Harvest.” Most inspiring was the very fine rendering by the combined hand and songsters of the lovely transcription “Seek Ye the Lord,” "while the singing of the male voice party was superb in “Word of Words the Sweetest.” “Two_ Harvests” was the title of Colonel Kemp s sermon, in which he used many gripping illustrations relevant to his theme.

A special advertisement in this issue gives details of til© “Harvest Home” to bo held to-night at the citadel.
