PROBATION GRANTED.

According to evidence given in the Magistrate’s Court, to-day, Augustus Stevens Parsons, a taxidriver and butcher, knowing that detectives were going to visit Ins home in search of stolen property, rang up two taxidrivers, and got them to see his mother-in-law to instruct her to destroy the pbroperty before the arrival of the police. When the police did arrive the property had been destroyed and only the remnants were found in the fireplace Parsons pleaded guilty to the theft on March 1. of a motor-car sidecurtain valued at 17s 6d, the property of H. B. Mount. The police remarked that it was difficult to know why accused stole the curtain because it was of no value to him, but counsel attributed it to the fact that accused was drunk and not really aware of what lie was doing. Probation was extended for two years, with the proviso that he remain a prohibited person and make restitution of the 17s 6d.
