OBITUARY.
The recent death of Mr Frederick Martin, of AA’aihou Road. To Arolia. severed a link with the early days of AA'oodville. where he lived for many years, and took an active part in the social and public life of the community. Mr Martin was born at Puketnpu, Napier, soon after his parents had disembarked from the sailing vessel Hudson. 62 years ago. The family moved shortly after to AA’oodville and settled on a hush section, which they inline-, diately set about clearing and bringing into production. On completing his education, Mr Martin was apprenticed to Mr D. VI. Horne, who was then a. eoachbuilder, of AA’oodville. Always actively interested in sport, he was a prominent footballer, a member of the Fire Brigade, and also of the local Volunteers. At the age of 22 he went to Masterton, whore he joined a firm. He was a life member of the Masterton Band, and during his 20 years’ residence in the town took a most active part in ite welfare. In 1916 he removed with his family to Te Aroba, where he joined one of the principal firms, and also identified himself with several institutions. He retired about six years ago to a property ho had purchased near Te Arolia. His death occurred in the AA’aikato Hospital Hamilton, after a lengthy period of ill-health. He leaves a widow and daughter (Miss Irene Martin). There are three surviving members of the t*n. These comprise Mr Ernest Martin (Papatawa). Mrs T E. Hughes (Paraparamuml and Mrs I J. Kely (Lyall Bay, AYellington) The funeral was largely attended.
