EXPANDED DEFENCE
AUSTRALIAN PROGRAMME GREATER EXPENDITURE. TOTAL OVER 70 MILLIONS. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Received February 18, 11.3 U a.m. MELBOURNE, Eeb. 18. The accelerated and expanded defence programme of the Federal Government, which it was estimated would originally cost ,£63,000,000 over a period of three years, will probably cost not less than .£70,000,000. The additional expenditure results from the recommendations of the Inspector-General of the Military Forces (Lieutenant-Gen-eral Squires).
