AWAPUNI TRACK

CATALOGUE BACK AGAIN. LAUGHING LASS BRILLIANT. (By “Spectator.”) Features of the truck work at Awapuni this morning were a brilliant sprint by Laughing Lass, a very fine mile in which Beaupartir accounted for another Wanganui Cup candidate, Tho Bigot, and the reappearance of Catalogue, who visited the track for tho first time since being injured in the middle of January and wan restricted to trotting exercise. Lie has made a good recovery, and looks well. Jumping off smartly from practically a standing start, Laughing Lass hit out with great freedom over six furlongs, which she covered in the exceptionally smart time of 1.17. She had a lightweight, 1). Redstone, in the saddle, but it was one of the best galloiw recorded on the track for some time, and she should strip in great order tor her engagements at Wanganui, as she looks better than ever she has been. This gallop took place on the plough, where practically all the work was done. 1 lie going there being in good order. Comparatively little use was made of the course proper, where the going was hard, with the flags wide out. Oratory (Redstone) also looks well, and was not under pressure to run a comfort-, able half-mile in 54*ec, YOUNGSTERS IN ACTION. La Brit (Tattersall), who has- built up again in condition, itad Vasconcs (Chaplin) for a companion over half a mile run in 52 l-ssec. Myarion and Sanciful, a pair who will be making their debut in the Sapling Stakes at Woodvillo to-morrow, ran a smart three furlongs in 38j,scc. Both were going very well, and are likely youngsters. The former is bv Myosotis and tho latter by 1 Oxbridge. Mil lament (Ireland), Newbury Queen (Broughton) and Deflation (Hanake) were associated in a gallop over half a mile on tiic course proper, where they look 53scc. Millainent just heat Newbury Queecn, who went well, with Deflation tailed off. WANGANUI CUP HORSES. Beaupartir (Ireland), who has teen working impressively, was again responsible for a good elTort to-day when he beat The Bigot (Broughton) at the end of a very solid mile. There was no loafing on the journey, tho full distance teing run in the good time of 1.462. Tho last six furlongs took 1.23. Both these horses are in tip-top condition. Vadanoc (Chaplin) and Royal Lassie (Broughton) were allowed to run an easy five turlongs. Thrasos (Anderson), Brazil (Ireland) and Yed Prior (Broughton) were companions over six furlongs run in 1.19. Brazil finished on best to be slightly in front of Thrasos.

Aurora’s Star (Ternperton) and Cuddler (W. Jenkins) dashed over two furlongs in 25?ec. the same time as was taken by Katcsbridge. Cuddler, w'ho is in the maiden event at Woodvillo tomorrow, appears to have improved. Cuisinier (Broughton) and Taumau (Ireland) ran five furlongs in 1.7 4-5. The former has made considerable progress of late. CORROBOREE STEPS OUT. The manner in which Corroborce got through his work this morning suggested that he will be a fit horse when he goes to the post at Woodvillo to-morrow. With Tattersall in the saddle and Old Bill (Bowden) for a companion he covered six furlongs nicely in 1.19 4-5. White Gold ( Tattersall) showed her usual speed to get to the end of a similar distance in 1.19. Sudan (Broughton) was too good for Bumble (Tattersall) over seven furlongs run in 1.34 3-5. The former appears to have benefited from her outings at Hawera and Egniont, and should be capable of an improved performance at Woodville. HANOVER. FALLS HEAVILY. Ilanover set out to do a round of the hurdles, hut, apparently being temporarily troubled by the sun, crashed clean into the lirst fence, throwing his rider, W. J. McDowell, heavily. The latter was shaken but the horse was not injured. Useful tasks were allotted Golden Ridge, Seyfricd, Lady Ina, Vesty, Sporting Gift, Ecstatic. Old Surrey, Riotous, Diamond Cutter, Parian and others. The death is reported of the promising hurdler Royal Record, who had to be destroyed at Ashhurst three weeks ago, when he was in a bad way. This is a severe loss for his owner, Mr W. T. Bailey.
