So heavy was the fog over New Plymouth airport yesterday that the Union Airways ’plane due from Auckland at 9.5 was unable to land. It headed for Hawera aerodrome, landing there shortly after 10 o’clock. Tins is the first time that a ’plane has landed at Hawera as an alternative to New Plymouth.—Press Association. Australian Civil Aviation Department statistics for the first nine months of 1938 show that 290 pupils were successful during the period in obtaining their “A” licenses.
