NEW MARIST SCHOOL

READY FOR OPENING. SIXTY PUPILS EXPECTED. Making the fifth secondary school at this centre, the St. Patrick’s High School established in Grey Street by the Marist Brothers Order Ls to be officially opened this week-end by Very Itev. Monsignor T. F. Connolly, of Wellington, the Vicar-General of the Diocese, who will perform the ceremony in the absence of Archbishop O’Shea, who is at present in Europe. Practically completed at a cost of £2OOO, which was raised locally, is the nucleus of the new school, to which additions will be made as Jt develops. Designed on the latest openair principles, the wooden building, which faces Grey Street, at present consists of two classrooms and their attendant facilities. Sixty pupils from the Manawatu district will attend the school when it is opened and, for a start, instruction will he confined to Forms 1,2 and 3, the curriculum being extended for higher secondary education as these classes pass on. . Eormerlv in charge of the Sacred Heart College at Auckland for four years, Brother Tarcisius, who has been engaged in organising work for the past twelve months, will be the principal of the new school. He will be assisted by Bro. Bernard, of the Marist Brothers School in Auckland. The new school is the fourteenth to he established in New Zealand by tho Marist Brothers Order.
