DOURO CUP WINNER.

RECENT GOOD FORM

Ruling Spi, the winner of Ute Douro Cup at Trentham, has won four races since Christmas. After succeeding twice at Manawatu and then winning easily by five lengths at Marton, she was very favourably handicapped at 8.2 in the Douro Cup for a mare having practically her last race among hacks. She has now won £7BO in stakes in 23 starts.

Ruling Spi was ridden in two of her recent wins by G. It. Tuttcrsall, who was tho pilot of Sigurd, whom she beat by a neck in the Douro Cup. She is now much more solid than formerly, is staving on well, and has been racing with great consistency during the last two months.

A four-year-old chestnut mure. Ruling Spi is a daughter of Chief Ruler and the imported Irish-bred Spion Kop mare Spionetta, who bad previously left Night Spi and Money Spi, both winners. She carries tho colours of her breeders, Messrs R J. Harper and IT. S. Oornfoot, of Feilding, who also race Lone Raider. Her clam, Spione'tta, was sold at tile last January sales to Mr J. G. Alexander, of Maxwell, for 400 guineas.
