DOMINION TOURNAMENT, FIFTH DAY’S PLAY.

The New Zealand championship croquet tournament, which is being held at Palmerston North, entered upon its fifth day to-day under glorious weather conditions. Good progress is being made with the various competitions, and the first games of the handicap doubles were played this morning. To-day all the Handicap doubles events iiavc been started, and as the weather is all that could be desired and the lawns are particularly good, much interest was taken in the matches. As is usual with handicap games, the round was not completed as quickly as the management would have desired, although some excellent games were plaved. Mrs Bassett and Mrs D. McClymont v. Mrs Pitcaithly and Davis.—The former pair had to concede half a bisque to their opponents. Mrs McClymont played steadily to place her clip on rover in a few turns. Neither Mrs PitcliaiLilly nor Davis could get going and only'scored a few points bef ore” Mrs Bassett also got round to rover. In the later stages of the game Mrs McClymont in pegging out, missed and again Mrs Pitcaithly had control, but when setting a rush for No. 4 Mrs McClymont hit in and finished in the next turn, 26—6. A. J. Gibbs and Mrs Turner v. Mrs Palmer and Healey.—Mrs Palmer was the first to get going, making a break and soon getting her clip to rover. Gibbs followed and in several turns also had his clip on the return. In and out play followed, Mrs Turner making the rover shot to her opponents’ balls, missed giving them the play.
