SHANNON.

(From Our Own Correspondent). SHANNON, Dec. 22.

When in Wellington on Monday with the deputation from the Manawatu-Oroua River Board, meeting the Minister of Public Works, Mr R. J. Law, chairman Buckley Drainage Board, took the opportunity of bringing under the , notice of the Ministo the serious state of the Koputaroa flood protection works, particularly the Public Works Department’s bank on the Mangaoric Stream, which has eroded almost, throughout, and threatens the whole of the Buckley and Koputaroa districts, should even a small flood occur. The Minister's attention was drawn to the state of the banks at the southern end of the board’s district, and Newman's floodgate, which is now washed out. The Minister received the request for assistance most sympathetically, and realised the great danger to the district. He intimated Ihtft he would instruct his engineers to report on the position immediately, with a view to having .the works reconstructed- before any serious damage occurs.
