HOLIDAY MOTORING
APPEAL FOR CARE. MANAWATU'S GOOD RECORD. An appeal to ail motorists and road users to exercise care was made in a statement yesterday by the president of the Automobile Association (Manawatu), Mr W. • H. Brown, in an interview with the “Standard.” “With Christmas comes the holiday feeling and a time to relax and take' things easy, but ' such relaxation can- 1 not be applied to those driving motorvehicles,” said Mr Brown. “The indications are that the traffic on the road this season will be a record, but those driving motor-vehicles, I hope, will not relax the vigilance and care that are required to ensure safety on the road. “An appeal for care was made last Christmas and it is very gratifying to know that no Manawatu motorists were involved in any serious accidents during the Christmas period, and I feel confident that Manawatu motorists will act in such a way that this happy record will be again attained this season.
“I feel that it is unnecessary at .this stage to reiterate the rules of the road and safety slogans, but I would stress the necessity to exercise care, not to speed unnecessarily, but to extend to other road users the courtesy and assistance that you yourself would expect “Christmas rejoicings can be sadly, marred by accidents, serious or other- / wise, and as 90 per cent of accidents, could possibly be avoided every road user must realise his responsibility not, only for his own safety but for tiny safety of the traffic in which he movesl It is therefore his duty to constantly exercise care and to drive safely. I feel confident that this appeal will not fall upon deaf, ears, and that the good results that have come from the safety week recently inaugurated by the Minister of Transport will have satisfactory results.
“Tile Automobile Association extends tho compliments of ’■lie season to all motorists and wishes them a safe and trouble-free holiday.”
