PAHIATUA MOTOR-CYCLISTS. Mr W. Bentley presided over a special meeting of the Pahiatua MotorCycle Club. The resignation of Mr Bentley (secretary) was accepted with regret, and Mr W. Gleeson was appointed. Mr T. Swanney was appointed treasurer. It was decided to hold a gymkhana at the Showgrounds in January.

CHRISTMAS CANTATA. There was only a moderate congregation present to hear the rendering at the Church of England of the Christmas cantata, “The Story of Incarnation,” by the choir. The recitatives were sung by Misses Y. Wills and D. Bick, and Messrs. A. W. Hamilton and L. A. Truscott. A number of old and modern hymns were also rendered. A Scripture lesson descriptive of the birth of the Saviour was read by the vicar, who also gave a short address on the meaning of Christmas.

NOTES. The officials of the Post Office are experiencing a very busy time handling the large amount of Christmas mail, which is calculated to he far in excess of last year. The staff has been augmented in order that this correspondence may be distributed expeditiously. No "marked increase in the amount of business is as yet noticeable in the Telegraph Office. Yesterday afternoon tile Pahiatua Borough Council entertained the County Council at afternoon tea. Seasonal greetings were exchanged. At the conclusion of the business of the Pahiatua Magistrate’s Court, Mr R. T. Adams, on behalf of the local members of the legal profession, wished Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., the compliments of the season and spoke highly of his work during the year. He paid a similar .tribute to the members of the Pahiatua Police Force and offered his sympathy to Constable Le Comte in his recent illness. On behalf of the Police Force, Sergeant Bonisch replied and wished Mr Lawry and the members of the Bar, the compliments of the season. _ A large number of friends gathered for a gift evening for Miss Faith Hind who is to be married to Mr B. Leppien, of Gre.ymouth. The music for the dancing was supplied by Mr P Jackson, and Mr N. Clieckley was M.C. PERSONAL. Miss M. Langton has returned home after spending a fortnight’s holiday at Upper Hutt. Mr and Mrs S. K. Siddells are visiting Eastbourne, Wellington. Also visiting the Capital City is Mrs N. Udy, of Kakariki. Miss RBurgess, of Mangaramarama, has joined the nursing staff of the Wanganui Hospital. Mr and Mrs C. Inch, of Wellington, are the guests of Mr F. E. Webb, of Kakariki, for the Christmas holidays. Mrs J. A. Walsh is visiting her daughter, Mrs G. Gregory, of Gisborne. Andther visitor to Pahiatua for the holidays is Miss" M. Diamond, who is the guest of Mrs J. Diamond. Dr and Mrs H. Paterson have Mr and Mrs I. Paterson, who have just returned from a holiday spent in the Sounds, as their guests. Mr B. Ashbridge, secretary of the Wellington Educational Institute, and Mrs Ashbridge, will be the guests of Mr and Mds G E. Gelderd during the Christmas holidays. Mr G. L. Stafford, M.A., of the Huntly District High School. »nd formerly of the Pahiatua District High School, is, with Mrs Stafford, re-visit-ing relatives and friends in the town.
