TRIALS AT HASTINGS.
CONTINGENT FOR MANAWATU. Horses forming the Manawatu contingent did mo6t of their fast work on the plough at Hastings yesterday. Master Cyklon did a good trial for the Grandstand Handicap at Awapuni by covering a solid round in 1.39, the last half mile in 52scc. Another good gallop was performed by Kathbclla. who has quite thrown off her soreness. She dashed over five furlongs in 1.3. Halley, the Waipukurau maiden candidate, finished nicely beside Mimicry, who is engaged at Manawatu, at tho end of a fast half-inile in 49scc on the inside grass track. Hagen and Le Toquet were running well within themselves to cover their six furlongs in 1.17 3-5, after a fast first three in 37sec.
Sunola, who is improving, and will race in the Nursery Handicap at Awapuni tomorrow, again pleased by running a halfmile in 50 3-ssec.
Looking bright and well for Awapuni, Ivar covered five furlongs in 1.4, and it appeared that he could have done much better. ....
Boatsong, who is in the highweight event to-morrow, and Tiger Gain easily ran the last six furlongs of their round in 1.19. Endorsement; who looks in great heart for Awapuni, bad the measure of Buster Brown over half a mile in 50 2-ssec.
