FINAL SPRINT TASKS. RAKAHANGA GOES FREELY. (By “Spectator.”) Short sprinting tasks and paccwork were the order at the Awapuni track, this morning. in the final tuning up of horses engaged at tho Manawatu meeting, which opens to-morrow. With tho flags 40 feet out, the going was on tho soft side still, but, provided there is no further rain of any consequence, it should be in perfect condition to-morrow afternoon. Tho wind yesterday dried up the track a great deal, but the sting will .certainly be out of the ground. There was plenty of activity 'on the plough, which was in good order. Moving very freely Rakahanga pleased by the manner in which she got to the end of half a mile in 53jscc. Counterblast was going exceptionally well over three furlongs in 38scc. Both Wild Chase and Laughing Lass did useful five-furlong sprints, but were not extended.

The Bigot, who looks well, went at half-pace for throe furlongs and then came home over a- further three in 40iseo, with a good weight up Sunee and Good Sun did & good gallop in covering seven furlongs in 1.34 3-5. Sternchase, who looks in great order, slipped over three furlongs easily in 42sec. Serenata (Broughton) dashed over tho same distance in 41scc. Argentic, Haughty Winner, Thra-sos, Old Surrey. Lady lna. Aurora’s Star, with many others, including tho Trenfham ti#n of T. R. George, worked on the nisium Rabble and Improvident were allotted light tasks. Later Argentic (Broughton) easily beat Haughty Winner (McCarthy) home over half a mile in 55i-sec, but tn« pace was not really on Great Flight set out to do three furlongs, but lost her rider, Parsons, when her saddle slipped in tho straight. Parsons received a shaking, but was not hurt. Patter, who is looking well, did strong half-pace work on the inner. Two horses which have recently been recommissioned are Cuddler, who has built up considerably, and C’alibri, a three-year-old youngster by Philamor from Idanoe, the dam of Vadanoe.

Lady lna, Soyfried and Golden Ridge will be piloted in their engagements by W.
