LYTTON STREET SCHOOL.

QUESTION OF BEBUILDING. A special report was submitted to the AN anganui Education Board, yesterday, by the architect (Mr E. R. Hodge) on the question of rebuilding or remodelling the Lytton Street School (Feilding). He recommended that the school he placed on the now building list. “In company with the secretary,” Air Hodge said, “I visited Feilding and met members of the committee to discuss with them the matters put forward in the letters of the chairman of the committee, dated September 10 and 28, and to examine the building with a view to determining the need for placing this school in such a position on the rebuilding list as to give it prior claim to those scheduled for attention during tho year 1938-39. The building appears to lie in every way sound constructionally. Its main disabilities arc that the orientation is at fault and that its arrangement is such as to make complete and adequate organisation difficult. These faults can only lie corrected by a new setting to the whole building giving the northern orientation to the classrooms. In any remodelling the core buildings should Tie done away with. I have not had an opportunity of estimating the cost of a major remodelling. “I would recommend flic placing of Lytton Street upon the now building list. Its exact position should not, however, be decided until at some time during the coining year. The increase in attendance due to consolidation and hy reason of tho establishment of a new residential centre in close proximity to the school must be considered and provided for.” The report was adopted.
